Rather than spending too much more time fiddling I'd simply Clean Reinstall the printer which always works, lasts longer and actually saves time:
1) Power up the printer, if wired unplug it's USB cable from PC.
2) Right click Start button in Windows 8/10 to open Apps and Features (or in Windows 7 type it in Start Search) to Uninstall all the printer software. Restart.
3) Next copy and paste in Start search box: printui /s /t2 (Note that there is one space before each forward slash).
4) Right click result to Run as Administrator.
5) Open the Print Server properties, Remove the printer’s drivers for this printer and for any other printers you don't use presently. If you get a message about access denied or the printer being in use and you cannot find the driver or any installed program that would account for this, you may restart the computer in a diagnostic startup and then use the printui command to remove the driver package(s): https://www.isunshare.com/windows-10/enable-dia...
You must restart back to normal mode before you will be able to install the printer again.
6) Now type Control Panel in Start Search, open CP, choose Icon View. In Control Panel open Devices and Printers, right click the printer to delete the Printer and any scanner or fax of the same name. Restart PC.
7) Go to the printer model’s Support Downloads webpage to download and install the basic driver. If a wireless printer you will need the full software package to get it set up fully. If you want to be able to scan from the printer top to the PC then you'll also need the full package.
8) Extract Printer software, right click Setup file to Run as Administrator. Follow the setup screens closely as you install the software. For USB it should prompt when to plug in the printer.
If you have further problems reply back with results of each step.

Hi Rhonda. I'm Greg, a volunteer installation specialist and 8 year WIndows MVP here to help you.I am able to print now but the scanning feature is not working - how do I get that working?

What happens now when you try to scan something from the printer top? Does it give a choice to Send to PC? Is there an error? What happens exactly?

Open the printer software on the PC. Under Scan settings do you see any to Start Scan with Windows? This needs to be enabled so that the scanner software starts with Windows and is always running in case you need to scan something from the printer top. When I choose to scan from the printer It shows 'Downloading application list' but no list downloads & nothing happens. In the last screen of the driver install process there is a tick box that shows 'Put shortcut to Imaging Toolbox on Desktop' but that button cannot be ticked. I finally found the Dell Imaging toolbox but when I tried to scan from the Dell TooI Imaging box I got an error stating it was successful. I wonder am I missing something from the drivers package?

Hp Support For Dell V305
In the Scan section of the Manual for your printer here I notice that connecting the printer to the network appears to bypass the Application List mess so that you can directly scan. http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/...
I'd uninstall the software and try reinstalling it as a network PC to try this.
Otherwise the wired printer may be tethered to a Windows 8 version of these tools that doesn't work correctly in Windows 10, unless you can install it in Compatibility Mode to trick the program into thinking it's running on Windows 10: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/ol...
Did it ever work correctly in Windows 10? How did the Scanning function exactly?
It's possible the printer become deprecated hardware in Version 1709? Is that what installed which caused the scanner to not work, or did it ever work in Windows 10? You could try rolling back to Version 1703 in Settings>Update & Security>Recovery to see if it works again if the printer matters enough to remove and hide the Fall Creators Update.
Or if Windows Updates caused this you could try uninstalling those in Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates and hide them using the hide Updates tool here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930
Let me know if any of these options helps or needs more help. There might be others.

After an aggravating 12 hours I found out how to get the DellV305 to work in win10. Not sure why Dell couldn't do this but anyway.......
1) Delete all the v305 printers showing up in Win10 device settings after Win10 installation.
(Win 10 says they are working and documents are indeed sent. The printer says it's online and waiting to print. Both are lying.)
Dell V305 Ink
2)Restart windows, reboot router, reboot V305.
3) Download from Dell R264821 Driver package (Win7 32bit, just in case your service tag is older or newer than mine), but I'm pretty sure it's the same driver. (Note: that the Win7 64bit drivers will NOT work in Win10 64 bit)
4) unzip the driver download and when it's finished, it will directly go to the set up package. Set up your 'new' printer in windows10. (You will need to do 'add a printer')
5) Now restart the computer, reboot the router, and reboot the printer. (You may not need to, but I did)
If your's works like mine, it will now actually print instead of lying to you when you sens a document.

Hope this helps.
